Please join us in welcoming the newest cohort of Teach For Cambodia Fellows!
This year’s cohort is made up of 21 diverse and high-potential young leaders representing 10 universities from 18 academic backgrounds. They come from 12 provinces. 8 are young professionals and 13 are recent graduates from Royal University of Phnom Penh, Institute of Foreign Languages, Institute of Technology of Cambodia, University of Cambodia, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, National University of Management, Khemarak University, Beltei University, and Royal University of Agriculture. They have a range of academic and professional backgrounds including English and Khmer literature, Science, Math, Economics, Social Work, Business, Food Science, and International Relations.
Fellows’ introduction to the program started with a welcome event at Raintree where they had the opportunity to come together to connect with each other, alumni, current fellows, and TFC staff.
New fellows got to hear from alumna, Putheavy Nhek, a current teacher mentor at Chea Sim Prek Anchanh High School and first-year fellow Mengkorn Pum about how the program has shaped their leadership journey. Putheavy shared that the rigorous application process, pre-service Intensive Training and two-year fellowship prepared her to take on any challenge in her next work environment with strong skills, resilience and excellence. Another important lesson that she learned from the fellowship was fostering a mindset of possibility. By the end of the two years, she realized so much more that change is possible and she is a strong change agent.
After hearing these stories and interacting with everyone at the event, new fellows shared that they felt safe and warm to open up about themselves, which is something that usually takes longer for them to do. Other new fellows are excited to learn more about themselves and the work ahead during the Intensive Training (starting this month!), immerse themselves in their placement schools and create a positive impact on Cambodian students’ lives.
We are excited to welcome the new cohort. Let’s wish them the best as they start their Intensive Training this month and get ready to start teaching and leading in schools in January 2023!
